A developed tourism centre that has not lost its natural charms
Silifke is situated at the feet of the Taurus Mountains and on both banks of the Göksu River. With well-known folk songs and dances, Silifke hosts every year International Music and Folklore festival as "Culture Week" activities between 20-26 May.
The history of Silifke goes back to the Hittite period. Within the city centre there are historical temple and stone bridge over the Göksu River from the Roman period, the castle from the Middle Ages, a giant cistern from the Byzantine period, Alaaddin Mosque and Tevekkul Sultan Mausoleum from the Seljuk's period and Resadiye Mosque from the Ottoman period.
